5. You see its lights unambiguous
Whether gathered or scattered

6. Like the lines of script gleaming
When they gleam on the pages

7. You see the pupils of the meadows
Among the most lovely of gazes

8. Like carnelian cups for them
Of crystal, like honor itself

9. This is for the purity of the noble one
Whom I ransom with all I own

10. So wherever my cares turned
To the one towards whom my thoughts bend

11. The chosen one of Mustafa, and enough
So describe or do not describe

12. His brother, son-in-law, and bright
Appearance in the stand of parting

13. Who always reveals his worries
With a face in which all is exposed

14. He gifted him the trusteeship when
He gifted, though lowly of origin

15. The wicked, evil rooted and branched
Came to him while he wore a coarse robe

16. With a polished, straight sword
At the height of purity

17. For an intimacy that exceeded
The furthest range of intimacy

18. So God increased for our Master
By him gifts upon gifts

19. And lodged him through him in rooms
Added to rooms

20. The dweller lasts without ruin
Or senility or decay

21. Have you not seen what befell us
With Hussein, upon him our burdens

22. Of anxiety, anguish, grief
Suppressed rage and sorrow

23. The enemies seized him, with rending
And violence, no gentleness

24. They left upon the pilgrim
Nothing, while his father prayed

25. As if he hoped neither for this life
Nor the next, and did not fear

26. Did not cry Labbayk, nor circle the Kaaba
With no errors, pure of past

27. By my life, that paragon
Was adorned with the best traits

28. Dear, of dear lineage, noble
With virtue above all nobility

29. Generous, exceeding in generosity
Though not wasteful in it

30. Bringing to life those he revives
Without confusion or crookedness

31. His doves came to him in halves
By my life, that halving of selves

32. So flow, my tears, do not stop
On the cheeks, do not halt

33. For one surrounded by the swords
Of enemies, what surrounding!

34. Their arrows at him vied
As they vie for the target

35. He had no fortress for refuge
No breastplate, no shield

36. His family protected him from the Euphrates
With their white and their brown

37. Whenever he neared a cliff
They kept him from the cliffs

38. So the thirsty was diverted from him
Remaining, not turning away

39. His grandfather was absent from him
So his distant one was cut off

40. Grieving over his gentleness
With kinds of gentleness

41. For one he could not carry
On the two palms or shoulder

42. The allies of terrible treachery
Among the worst treacheries

43. Devoured the Chosen One - how excellent
The one girded and wrapped!

44. And O ceiling of the Most High, lofty
Ceilings above the ceilings!

45. When can we measure up to you
With a lasting, renewed resolve?

46. We measure shells without pearls
To pearls without shells.

47. This is the gazelle, recognize
Her gaze, gazelle, and admit.
