1. My face is still as you knew it
Unchanged, untampered with

2. And my passion which was my nature
Is as it was, no affected desire

3. Apart from forgetful people whose accord
Was cemented when we were in harmony

4. Estrangement did not change me, but
The nights and their circumstances did

5. I loved time as a friend, O Abu Al-Qasim
While others' love was conditional

6. I do not think well of interest in anything but love
So I reciprocate equally and double

7. And if there was laxity in my script
The script's laxity in love is sacrilegious

8. Seeking a response is a form of verification for me
And my custom is to lighten

9. O Abu Al-Qasim, towards whom the passionate gaze
Is intent, undeviating

10. O luminous scribe, I call people to witness
What I say about you and swear it

11. Are you a rock from which you sculpt
Your phrases in books, or do you draw from the sea

12. We all extract pearls from your words
And pluck flowers from your speech

13. You have indulged in generosity to the point
That you left no other indulgent person indulgent

14. Thus you are gentle in speech
And when serious, you are serious like the haughty

15. Bringing together, leaving together, and no gathering
Remains from a disperser unless he leaves some behind

16. You are the perceptive literate one, and you are
The well-mannered, gentle one

17. The generous natured, not the pretentious
And the graceful carpenter, not the embellisher

18. Time passed and took you away from me
And hopefully time after being unjust will do justice

19. And my brother realizes, so I yearn
For him and lean towards him fluttering

20. He visited Egypt, and someone from afar
Called your name seeking help from you

21. And you have not ceased being helpful and gracious
Whether or not I said, you bring aid

22. Either I have fallen short, and could not
Do anything, weak and failing

23. And my anticipation for what will return
From you is the anticipation of an optimistic hopeful one

24. Gratitude flowed before kindness
O you to whom the grateful incline

25. And my way is not to reward
A kindness with gratitude, but to owe it
