1. O garden crafted for it
Its ornaments the first rains

2. Woven onto it are robes
Not sewn by a tailor

3. Some are head covers
Others are patterns

4. As if its pearls
Are winds around it

5. The wilderness in its corners
Tribes of mixed folk

6. They came to it as they did tomorrow
To its Eid, the Anbat

7. Or like Persian men
Brought together by Sabaṭ

8. Aqueducts of tin
Made firm by the potter

9. And a pulpit of teak
As if made by a tailor

10. I left it and no banners remained
Erected by al-Ghaṭṭāṭ

11. With dogs, if they did not hunt
Hunting would activate them

12. In an hour I do not weep
Sadness diminished in it

13. It extends barren at times
At others it is folded

14. We came while the shadow was
On its ears like earrings

15. Its middles had slimed
It has no middles

16. It laughs at the likes of extent
Its laughter mixed up

17. Until the dawn ripped for it
A piece of its veil

18. And the sun with the edges
Of darkness clothed

19. It spread like a meteor
Unhindered in its extent

20. As if palms were in
Its tops like combs

21. As if feet and marshlands
Were fighting each other

22. So it began, and the wildlife in
Its expanse a carpet

23. This for that a tether
That for that a knot

24. Tied to it, a black snake
Whose home is bundles

25. A lifeless body whose shirt
Is ripped from it, unsewn
