1. O moon in the clouds of forgiveness,
You are the link between the crown and forgiveness.

2. Your white armor here is more heavily laden
In its elegance than your green sword.

3. Musk does not have the effect of your mention
In reviving our souls, nor ambergris.

4. My soul is sacrificed for you, O Abu
Ahmad, not every Ja'far is Ja'far.

5. Zab is but Eden, for you are in Al-Zab,
And its water is none other than Al-Kawthar.

6. If my poetry travels to you from Aleppo
Like the winds' breaking some, it would be easier.

7. So the travel of Ash-Shanawbari’s poetry from the East
To the West is not so strange.

8. Whenever I compile the diwan of your virtues,
You will find yourself in the first notebook.

9. Any praise that belittles you, even if it were
More numerous than the sand and pebbles.
