1. After separation caused the severance
And estrangement cut the cord of connection

2. You came thinking reprimand would benefit me
While reprimand seldom profits one like me

3. The breeze of the Levant calms longing if it blows
And lightning illuminates if it flashes

4. How can I be patient with one whose
Phantom always perturb my eyelids whenever I sleep

5. Why didn’t my liver split the day of parting
Had what afflicted it afflicted a slab, it would have split

6. Alas, I regret that I did not die of sorrow
Alas, I grieve that I did not perish from anguish

7. Had you witnessed our stance the day of separation
You would have downed the cup of love in one gulp

8. I asked him to return my greeting but he was stingy with it
And I wished to kiss his cheek but he refused

9. How often did I pause in despair and retreat in sorrow
Yet he neither paused from estranging me nor retreated

10. But the one whose image was innovated in beauty
Each day you see more and more beauty from him

11. I remain clad in the garb of darkness before
One who remains clad in the garb of glory

12. Tell the delinquents when their ships arrive
Cavity-ridden, creaking of plank and rib

13. You have come to seas long since come to
Why, you have alighted on a land long since alighted on

14. This is Abu Al-Qasim Al-Maymoun whose fame
Soared with excellence above the sublime

15. Whoever is praised for generosity he affected
Why, he has been naturally generous since he was created

16. Like the rising moon, a drawn sword, a rising star, a surging flood
In his grip a well-honed blade if he unsheathes

17. Dazzles the eyes with script that almost
Blinds the eyes when its splendor radiates

18. Every literati wishes to hear him
Never ceasing to be his audience as long as he lives

19. Mastery is the least you have been described with
And no young man thrives unless he masters his craft

20. If you follow your ancestor Al-Nu'man in generosity
People will trail you as followers tomorrow

21. You have surpassed the seal of Tayy in generosity
Indeed, you have surpassed Uwais among us in piety

22. How many far corners of earth are inhabited
By peoples who, but for you, would not have ample space

23. Your gifts drew near them when you were generous
As the light of the full moon draws near the earth when it is full

24. You were not content to be followed in generosity
Until you were emulated in innovation too

25. Such is the reward of one who did good
Man only reaps what he sows

26. The weight of thanking you wearied my strength
I will not accomplish it until the end of my days
