كم ثنايا وكم عيون مراض

1. How many twigs and how many eyes ailing,
Of narcissus and lilies in the gardens.

١. كم ثنايا وكم عيونٍ مراضِ
من أقاحٍ ونَرجسٍ في الرياض

2. How many cheeks protected from the anemone,
That were not given to kissing or biting.

٢. كم خدودٍ مَصُونةٍ من شقيقٍ
لم تُبَذَّلْ للَّثْمِ أو للعِضاض

3. Cut through the inner anemone, for in it
Is a look that does not bore of objections.

٣. اعترضْ باطنَ الشقيقِ ففيه
طُرَفٌ ما يملُّها ذو اعتراض

4. Unkempt locks unleashed without a comb,
Or braids told without shearing.

٤. جُمَمٌ سُرِّحت بلا مُشُطٍ أو
طُرَرٌ قُصِّصَتْ بلا مقراض

5. Redness over greenness and equality
Between the two, made white by whiteness.

٥. حُمْرَةٌ فوق خُضْرة وسواءٌ
بين هذين مُعْلَمٌ ببياض

6. The bleary-eyed, the sleepy-eyed, the best
Good brought me the best of judges.

٦. ذا خزامى ذا خُرَّمٌ ذاك خير
يٌّ قضى لي بِخَيْرِهِ خيرُ قاض

7. A springtime in the yellowness of a lover made
Ill by the malady of aloofness and refusal.

٧. ذا بهارٌ في صُفْرةِ العاشِقِ المَيْ
تِ بداءِ الصدودِ والإعراض

8. So give it to me like fire, excessive in redness,
In a vessel like water, excessive in whiteness.

٨. فاسقنيها كالنارِ فَرْطَ احمرارٍ
في إِناءٍ كالماءِ فَرْطَ ابيضاض

9. A burning fire its vessel a burning
Nasrany, the cure of the sick from diseases.

٩. جلّنارٌ إِناؤُه جلُّ نسري
نٍ شفاءُ المرضى منَ الأمراض
