1. Your pleasure is all pleasure to me, while
Your displeasure makes worthless all power and possession.

2. And forbearance, when it contains you, is but
A circle's center encircled by its shape.

3. Are you not Abu Ayyub, the most just ruler,
When equity is hoped for or injustice feared?

4. Why then am I spurned and then pressed, as though
I had been cold, when never cold was I?

5. My pact was that your messengers should honor
My dwelling with their sequence, but the pact is void.

6. Not that your neglect has caused this, but my own
Concern with patching up a life that comes unstitched.

7. Indeed, the likes of me must not exceed their rights
Or seek what they don't merit and thus overreach.

8. And were it not that love has led me to you, led me
Your habitual grace and ready kindness would have led.

9. A face that outshone dawn, hands like the sea
That has no shore―where am I to be compared?

10. Yet I have hopes that in your land of bounty
I may find footing however insecure.
