فَطِبْتُ بالنفسِ نفساً
2. Of a white that surpassed its kind
And a red that excelled its genre
٢. من أبيضٍ فاقَ نوعاً
وأحمرٍ راقَ جِنسا
3. As if the hand had dipped it
In saffron with a dip
٣. كأنَّما غَمَسَتْهُ
في العُصْفُرِ اليدُ غَمْسا

Except a bride and wedding
٤. ما كان لمَّا تبدَّى
إلاَّ عروساً وعُرْسا
5. I joined it the joining of my like
For a glance, smell and touch
٥. وَصَلْتُهُ وَصْلَ مثلي
لحظاً وشمّاً ولمسا

The familiar corrupted its intimacy

أفناهُ المزورِينَ أُنْسا
