1. Visit them if you will not visit,
Carrying the camel litters of visitation,

2. With backs laden,
And vows consecrated,

3. Visit, though Bethlehem be but a grave,
And Iraq but graves,

4. Visit, and do not cease to visit
As long as you are greeted

5. Visit the Prophet and visit as well
His successor and the vizier,

6. Visit the suns, suns of the days,
Visit the full moons.

7. Muhammad and Ali,
Shabbar and Shabir,

8. May God pray upon him who brought glad tidings and warnings,
And upon him who passed away, the seal of prophecy and the shining lamp,

9. And upon him by whom He brought good news of the blessed one of Quraysh,
And increased Fatima in purity each day.

10. O eye, send comfort to them
And send them your early visitations,

11. Send to Hamza or al-Abbas
A streaming visitation,

12. To their two uncles whom He clothed in light upon light
Quenchers of the heat of war without it and the blaze within it.

13. And I have not ceased since the affairs clashed around me
To be stirred by the memory of the day of the band

14. I say - and the saying remains -
After lifetimes, lifetimes,

15. The cycles of time and cycles
In which visitation was revived.

16. How many mountains you contained
And how many seas you contained!

17. Guidance lies in tombs
Shut up within them.

18. I have given the Fatimids
Sorrow and sighing,

19. The best in jihad
And the best supporters,

20. The fasting, praying purifiers
Bowed down in prayer;

21. Those who feed the orphan
And feed the prisoner;

22. The glorious people of the mantle,
Pulpit and bed;

23. Those never left by Gabriel
As their protection and support;

24. My craving for them is the craving of a lion
My craving for them is that of eagles

25. An obstinate camel craved to harm them
A camel led by donkeys craved against them

26. And he was always deficient since he was
Deficient, maimed.

27. The day of Husayn for the faith
You were a harsh day.

28. By God, Karbala, you filled hearts with agony.
As if I see the mill of war about to turn,

29. And the swords striking the Fatimids like birds,
And the Fatimid women slaughtered

30. With pouring tears,
A band who did not fear their God

31. To do wrong!
A band who did not heed His Book

32. Written out straightforward!
Was not carrying Husayn's head

33. A grave thing?
Was depriving him of water

34. A small matter?
You who forbid Husayn the Euphrates water out of injustice

35. And give the camel drink!
Tomorrow you will wish you had never swum

36. In the Prophet's Pool.
O people what did the people gain by being destroyed?

37. Was violating the sanctuary of Husayn a trivial thing?
Was beating his lips with a rod a little matter?

38. Glory to Him who through His patience holds back the earth from sinking down!
You committed against his father and grandfather

39. A forbidden thing.
You took vengeance on the people of Badr

40. When you found the opportunity.
My soul, keep the love of Kullthum from evil and wickedness.

41. If only her followers today were present
They would be crying aloud,

42. And gaping wide their mouths,
And organizing against the enemies

43. Raids at dawn and by night;
And slaughtering Yazid

44. A slaughtering of stiff-necked ones.
