لَولاwere it not for جَريرٌJarir هَلَكَتwould have perished بِجيلِهِBajilah
لَولا جَريرٌ هَلَكَت بِجيلِهِ
نِعمَhow excellent الفَتىthe young man وَبَئِسَتِand how wretched القَبيلَةthe tribe
نِعمَ الفَتى وَبَئِسَتِ القَبيلَة
Were it not for Jarir, Bajilah would have perished.
Were it not for Jarir, his generation would have perished
What a fine young man, and what a wretched tribe!
Excellent is the young man, but wretched is the tribe
