لَهُhe has سِيمياءٌa distinctive appearance لاnot تَشُقُّis hard عَلىon البَصَرْthe eye
A youth whom God showered with goodness while still young,
He has an appearance that does not strain the eye.
كَأَنَّas though الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades عُلِّقَتwere hung فيon جَبينِهِhis brow
وَفيand at حَدِّهِhis side الشِّعرىSirius وَفيand upon جيدِهِhis neck القَمَرْthe moon
As though the Pleiades were hung upon his brow,
And Sirius at his side, and the moon upon his neck.
وَلَماand when رَأىhe saw المَجدَglory اِستُعيرَتhad been borrowed ثِيابُهُits garments

He donned a broad-hemmed mantle and girded his waist.

When an offensive remark is uttered, he lowers his gaze, as though he were
A guide without abasement; yet had he wished, he would have retaliated.

He saw me and aided me; had he turned away, I would have blamed him,
At a time when neither nomad nor townsfolk could be looked to for help.
