هُوَhe اِبنُson of مُنضجاتٍwomen carrying past term كُنَّwere قِدماًlong ago
هُوَ اِبنُ مُنضجاتٍ كُنَّ قِدماً
يَزِدنَthey exceed عَلىbeyond العَديدِthe reckoned term قِرابَnearly شَهرِa month
يَزِدنَ عَلى العَديدِ قِرابَ شَهرِ
He is the son of women who, long ago, carried past term,
He is the son of ripened fruits that were once
Exceeding the reckoned term by nearly a month.
Increasing beyond many, nearly a month ago.
وَلَمand not يَكُhe was يَاِبنَO son of كاشِفَةِa woman who bares الضَواحيthe exposed limbs
وَلَم يَكُ يَاِبنَ كاشِفَةِ الضَواحي
كَأَنَّas though غُرورَهاher skin folds اِعشارُshards of قِدرِa cooking pot
كَأَنَّ غُرورَها اِعشارُ قِدرِ
And he was not, O son of her who bares her limbs,
And he was not, O son of the unveiler of the suburbs,
As though her folds were shards of a cooking pot.
As if her arrogance were tithes of fate.
