By al-Lat and al-Uzza, and whoever follows her faith,
By al-Lat and al-Uzza, and she whose faith they share,
And by Allah—indeed, Allah is greater than them—
And Allah—Allah is greater than them all.

I fear the horses’ sweat upon their backs,
I fear the neighing horses in their swift gallop,
And a jealous master whose face changes with anger,
And a jealous Lord whose face becomes enraged,

And ringed armor, made in Yathrib, fastened shut,
With oxen crafted in Yathrib, locked shut,
And a brown spear al-Hilali has brought close as he slaughters;
And the dark-skinned, crescent moon of Hilal set to wander.

So there is no recovery from Dabba’ while oil is pressed.
No safety from the wolf, while oil gets pressed.
