So if satire from me reaches you, it is only

Jamil son of Arqam who bestowed it on you from me.

He cloaked Harmala in treachery, but away withdrew

his clouds when he saw the people of Malham.

Will you then turn to me in this? For I am

a healer of what baffled the master physician Hidhyam,

so I may bring you out of the robe of a gray-haired, menstruating woman,

a notorious woman who soaked its lower folds with blood.

And had one of you been a protected neighbor among my clan,

then they would have recognized a neighbor's rights and inviolability.

And had a band of Tamim been around me,

my wealth would not have been divided among you.

Will you not fear God, as you feed them

crushed date pits and fodder for a whole year?

And among them you admired a white-blazed, conspicuous one,

long-owned; when the resting herd slept, he rumbled.
