وَرِثناwe inherited المَجدَglory عَنfrom آباءِforefathers صِدقٍintegrity
وَرِثنا المَجدَ عَن آباءِ صِدقٍ
أَسَأناwe did badly فيin دِيارِهِمُtheir dwellings الصَنيعاthe conduct
أَسَأنا في دِيارِهِمُ الصَنيعا
We inherited glory from upright forefathers;
We inherited glory from fathers of integrity
We behaved badly in their dwellings.
We did wrong in their homes
إِذاwhen الحَسَبُancestral honor الرَفيعُlofty تَواكَلَتهُthey left its care to one another
إِذا الحَسَبُ الرَفيعُ تَواكَلَتهُ
بُناةُbuilders السوءِevil أَوشَكَis close أَنto يَضيعاbe lost
بُناةُ السوءِ أَوشَكَ أَن يَضيعا
When lofty ancestral honor is neglected
When noble lineage relies on it
by unworthy builders, it is close to being lost.
The builders of evil are about to lose it
