To you, Gallipoli, from Egypt is folded and sent

To you my poem from Egypt folds

our greeting, fragrant as musk.

Our greetings so you tell of musk scattered

وإن ضاعت فلا عجبٌ لأنا

And if it gives off fragrance, no wonder, for we

And if it's lost no wonder for we

preserve the noblest remembrance of your day.

For your day preservers of the greatest memory

ففيهِ الباس خط على روابي

بطاحكِ بالدم المهراق سطرا

بطاحكِ بالدم المهراق سطرا

For on that day valor wrote upon the hills

For in it Al-Bas penned on the hillsides

of your plains, in spilled blood, a line.

With your blood the spilled crimson lined

تلاهُ الخافقات وسوف تبقى

The fluttering banners recited it, and still

Followed by the fluttering, and it will remain

the world will keep reading it as long as days endure.

For it the world lifelong will chant

وأياً كان قارئهُ نراه

بترديد السلام عليك مُغرى

بترديد السلام عليك مُغرى

And whoever its reader may be, we see him

And whoever reads it we see him

drawn to repeating, 'Peace be upon you.'

Repeating greetings to you inclined

يعظم من غزاةِ حماكش شأناً

ويرفعُ من حُماةِ حماكِ قدرا

He exalts the stature of your domain's invaders,

Esteeming the invaders of Hamakash highly

and raises the standing of your domain's defenders.

And raising the protectors of your Hamak dignity

وشَتكِ يد الربيع فلحتِ روضاً

وشَتكِ يد الربيع فلحتِ روضاً

وكان لروضك الجيشانِ زهرا

وكان لروضك الجيشانِ زهرا

Spring's hand embroidered you, so you appeared as a garden,

Your hand spread spring so you bloomed a garden

and the two armies were the flowers of your garden.

And for your garden the two armies were flowers

وكنتِ لجرأَة الجيشين مجلى

وكنتِ لجرأَة الجيشين مجلى

وكُنتِ لنخبةِ الجيشين قبرا

وكُنتِ لنخبةِ الجيشين قبرا

And you were a stage for the two armies' daring,

And you were to the two armies' audacity a refuge

and you were a grave for the finest of both armies.

And you were for the elite of the two armies a grave

فذاك مهاجماً جلى اقتحاماً

فذاك مهاجماً جلى اقتحاماً

وفاقَ بسالةً وامتاز كرَّا

وفاقَ بسالةً وامتاز كرَّا

So that army, attacking, shone in assault,

One attacked openly with valiant assault

and excelled in valor and stood out in the charge.

Excelled in courage and was distinguished indeed

اتى أبطالُ أنزكَ ما أطمّ ال

اتى أبطالُ أنزكَ ما أطمّ ال

وَرىَ روعاً وغشى الارض بهرا

وَرىَ روعاً وغشى الارض بهرا

The ANZAC heroes did what overwhelmed

The heroes of Anzac came, how crowded

humanity with terror and covered the earth with wonder.

Saw terror and covered the land blinded

فحقُّ نيوزلندا وأُستراليا

فحقُّ نيوزلندا وأُستراليا

بهم أن تشمخا عظماً وكبرا

بهم أن تشمخا عظماً وكبرا

So New Zealand and Australia have the right,

So it's New Zealand and Australia's right

through them, to stand tall in greatness and pride.

To stand tall and supreme in greatness

وهذا في الدفاع أرى ثباتاً

وهذا في الدفاع أرى ثباتاً

أفاد الصخرَ كيف يكون صخرا

أفاد الصخرَ كيف يكون صخرا

And this army, in defense, showed a steadfastness

And this in defense I see steadfastness

that taught rock how to be rock.

Taught the rock how to be sturdy rock

وعنكِ بطعنةٍ نجلاءَ بكرٍ

وعنكِ بطعنةٍ نجلاءَ بكرٍ

تلقَّى طعنةً نجلاءَ بكرا

And on your behalf, with a gaping, unprecedented thrust,

About you with a gallant young virgin's stab

it met a gaping, unprecedented thrust.

حماكِ كما أردتِ فعظميه

وَوَفِي حقهُ مدحاً وشكرا

It defended you as you wished; so exalt it,

Hamak as you wished so magnify it

and give it its due in praise and thanks.
