شَفىhealed النَفسَthe soul قَتلىthe slain بَينَamid رَوضَةِthe meadow سَلهَبٍSalhab
شَفى النَفسَ قَتلى بَينَ رَوضَةِ سَلهَبٍ
وَغَرَّهُمُand deceived them فيماin what أَرادَhe intended المُنَجَّبُthe noble-born one
وَغَرَّهُمُ فيما أَرادَ المُنَجَّبُ
The slain amid Salhab’s meadow healed the soul.
The souls were revived by those killed in the meadow of Salhab
And the noble-born one deceived them in what he intended.
And they were deceived into what the well-known desired
وَجُدناand we gave generously لِجودِيٍّto Judi بِضَربَةِwith a blow ثائِرِan avenger
وَجُدنا لِجودِيٍّ بِضَربَةِ ثائِرِ
وَلِلجَمعِand to the host بِالسُمِّwith poison الزعافِdeadly المُقَنَّبِcompounded
وَلِلجَمعِ بِالسُمِّ الزعافِ المُقَنَّبِ
And we were generous to Judi with an avenger’s blow,
We were generous to Jawdiyy with the strike of the raging
And to the host with deadly, compounded poison.
And to the group with the poisoned arrows, well-aimed
تَرَكناهُمُwe left them صَرعىfallen لِخَيلٍfor horses تَنوبُهُمcome upon them in turn
تَرَكناهُمُ صَرعى لِخَيلٍ تَنوبُهُم
تَنافَسُهُمvie with them فيهاin it سُباعُbeasts of prey المُرَحَّبِal-Murahhab
تَنافَسُهُم فيها سُباعُ المُرَحَّبِ
We left them fallen for horses to come upon in turn;
We left them slain to horses that took turns trampling them
There, the beasts of al-Murahhab vie with them.
While predatory beasts competed over them in the wilderness
