لَعَمريby my life وَماand not عَمريmy life عَلَيَّto me بِهَيِّنٍof little worth

لَقَد صُبِّحَت بِالخِزيِ أَهل النَمارِقِ
By my life—and my life is no small thing to me—
By my life, times are not easy for me
Indeed, the people of al-Namāriq were visited with disgrace at dawn,
The people of luxury woke up in disgrace
بِأَيديat the hands of رِجالٍmen هاجَرواthey migrated نَحوَtoward رَبِّهِمtheir Lord
بِأَيدي رِجالٍ هاجَروا نَحوَ رَبِّهِم

يَجوسونَهُم ما بَينَ دُرتا وَبارِقِ
At the hands of men who migrated toward their Lord,
At the hands of men who migrated towards their Lord
Sweeping through them between Durtā and Bāriq.
Attacking them between Durtā and Bāriq
قَتَلناهُمwe killed them ماthe space بَينَbetween مَرجِthe meadow of مُسَلِّحٍMusalliḥ
قَتَلناهُم ما بَينَ مَرجِ مُسَلِّحٍ

وَبَينَ الهَوافي مِن طَريقِ البَذارِقِ
We killed them between the meadow of Musalliḥ
We killed them, armed, between Marj and
And al-Hawāfī, along the escorts’ road.
Musalliḥ, and between al-Hawāfī on the route of al-Badāriq
