نَجُمُّwe rest وَلاand not نُعطىwe are paid وَتُعطىand are paid جُيوشُهُمtheir armies
وَقَدand indeed مَلؤواthey have filled مِنfrom مالِناour wealth ذاthe one with الأَكارِعِthe legs
We remain idle and unpaid, while their armies are paid.
Stars do not fall, yet their armies are given
And they have filled the legged one with our wealth.
And they have filled themselves with our possessions, O proprietor of hands
وَقَدand indeed كَلَّفوناthey have burdened us with عُدَّةًequipment وَرَوائِعاًand terrors
وَقَدand indeed وَأَبيby my father رُعناكُمُwe terrified you بِالرَوائِعِwith terrors
And they have burdened us with equipment and terrors.
They have burdened us with equipment and fine things
And, by my father, we have indeed terrified you with terrors.
Yet we refused to provide you with fine things
وَنَحنُand we جَلَبناwe brought الخَيلَthe horses مِنfrom أَلفِa thousand فَرسَخٍparasangs
إِلَيكُمto you بِمُحمَرٍّwith something blood-red مِنَof المَوتِdeath ناقِعِintense; deadly
And we brought the horses from a thousand parasangs away
We brought horses from a thousand leagues
To you, bringing blood-red, overwhelming death.
To you, marked with the red stain of death
