وَجُدودِ مَلكٍ قَبلَ آلِ ثَمودِ
God and the honor of Muhammad's son forbid,
The God and the honor of the son of Muhammad
as do royal forebears from before the people of Thamud,
And the ancestry of a king before the tribe of Thamud

that you consort with despised men, whose bloodlines
Refuse that you befriend those whose veins
among men, if traced, are the bloodlines of slaves.
Among the people are the veins of slaves

How many a forefather of yours would fasten his crown
How many fathers of yours who used to place his crown
upon his radiant brow—a king, a mighty champion.
Upon the forehead of an eloquent, strong young man
وَإِذاand if سَأَلتَyou ask المَجدُglory أَينَwhere مَحَلُّهُits abode

And if you ask glory where it dwells,
And if you ask glory, where is its place?
then glory is between Muhammad and Sa'id,
Glory is between Muhammad and Sa'eed

between al-Ashajj and Qays, splendid.
Between Al-Ashajj and Qais a separator
Bravo, bravo to his father and to the child!
Excellent, excellent for his father and newborn

They have not failed you in reaching the utmost heights of glory:
Your morals of generosity and inheritance of ancestry did not fail you
noble character and the legacy of forefathers.
To attain the extent of glory

A noble chief: when he vies with chiefs, you see in him
A branch, when branches compete, you see for it
roots of glory, newly won and inherited of old.
Currents of flowing, continuous glory

And when he calls for a mighty undertaking, they are mustered for him—
And if he calls for a great feat, mobilized for him
Hamdan beneath his mounted standard.
Are the Hamdan under his hoisted banner

They march clad in rings of iron, as though they were
They walk in the circle of the sword as if they are
lions of the reedbeds that have heard the roar of lions.
The lions of fathers who heard the roar of lions

And if you call the family of Kindah, they attack
with mature men of true worth, leaders and followers,
With the old men of truth, masters, and officers

And the youth of lion assaults as if their swords
in every fierce battle were lightning flashes amid thunder.
In every battle are lightning bolts

You see no Qays who comes close to your Qays
You do not see Qais approximating your Qais
in noble deeds, nor do you see anyone like Sa'id.
In generosity nor do you see like Sa'eed
