    And when seeking the fulfillment of needs, I have seen none

    like Nuʿmān—Nuʿmān of generosity, son of Bashīr.

    When he speaks, he fulfills what he says, and he is not

    like one lowering a rope of deceit to the people.

    وَما خَيرُ مَن لا يَقتَدي بِشَكورِ

    If ever I am ungrateful to Nuʿmān, I shall not be found grateful;

    and what good is one who does not follow a grateful person's example?

    So, but for the brother of the Anṣār, I would have been like a lodger

    who stayed as long as he stayed, but returned without even a trifle.
