زَهَمَ الوَحشِ عَلى لَحمِ الإِبِل

Once in spring we craved

the fat of wild game rather than camel meat.

فَغَدَونا بِطُوالٍ هَيكَلٍ

فَغَدَونا بِطُوالٍ هَيكَلٍ

كَعَسيبِ النَخلِ مَيّادٍ خَضِل

كَعَسيبِ النَخلِ مَيّادٍ خَضِل

So we set out in the morning on a tall, large-framed steed,

like a palm frond, swaying and lush.
