وَلَمّا نَزَلنا بِالمُشَقَّرِ وَالصَفا

وَلَمّا نَزَلنا بِالمُشَقَّرِ وَالصَفا

وَساقَ الأَعاريبُ الرِكابَ فَأَبعَدوا

When we encamped at al-Mushaqqar and al-Safa,

And when we camped at al-Mushaqqar and al-Safa,

the Bedouins drove the riding-camels on and went far afield.

And the Bedouins drove the riding camels, then went far away,

نَزَلنا فَغَوَّرنا مِياهَ مُحَلِّمٍ

نَزَلنا فَغَوَّرنا مِياهَ مُحَلِّمٍ

لَعَلَّ بَقايا جَيئَةِ القَومِ تَنفَدُ

لَعَلَّ بَقايا جَيئَةِ القَومِ تَنفَدُ

We went down and made Muhallim’s waters sink away,

We camped, then made Muhallim's waters sink underground,

hoping the remnants of the people’s advance would be spent.

Hoping what remained in the people's waterhole would run out.

فَلَمّا رَأَينا القَومَ لا ماءَ عِندَهُمُ

فَلَمّا رَأَينا القَومَ لا ماءَ عِندَهُمُ

وَلا صِنعَ إِلّا المَشرَفِيُّ المُهَنَّدُ

وَلا صِنعَ إِلّا المَشرَفِيُّ المُهَنَّدُ

Then, when we saw that the people had no water with them,

Then, when we saw that the people had no water,

and no recourse but the Mushrafī, the Indian-tempered blade.

And no recourse but the Mashrafi sword of Indian steel.
