Umāmah said, “Our dirhams do not last.”
Ammama said, "What remains of our dirhams,
Yet there is neither extravagance nor folly in us.
We have no excess nor holes among us,
إنّاindeed we إذاwhen اجتمعتcame together يوماًone day دراهمناour dirhams
ظلّتkept إلىtoward طرقpaths الخيراتِgood deeds تستبقُrace one another
For whenever our dirhams accumulate one day,
When our dirhams gather one day,
They keep racing toward the paths of good deeds.
They remain hastening to the paths of bounties,
فلاso do not تخافيfear عليناfor us الفقرpoverty وانتظريand await
سَيبَthe bounty الذيthe One who منfrom عندهwith Him نَثِقُwe trust
So do not fear poverty for us, and await
So do not fear poverty over us and wait,
The bounty of Him in whose provision we trust.
The outpouring will come from the One in whom we trust,
إنْif يَفْنَruns out ماwhat عندناwe have فاللهthen God يرزقُناsustains us
ومنand those سواناbesides us ولسناand we are not نحنwe ourselves نرتزقُwe procure sustenance
If what we have runs out, then God will sustain us
If what we have perishes, then Allah will provide for us,
And those besides us—it is not we who procure our own sustenance.
And from Him we receive sustenance, not from our own efforts."
