Turn aside, you two; let us call on Asmāʾ at al-Thamad,
I leaned on the names in the sands
on this side of Aqran, between al-Qūr and Najd.
Among the lizards and the rugged lands

If you meet me, see none but me
you will forget your weapons and recognize the lion’s brow.
Forget the weapons, know the lion's brow

What good, I wonder, can you do against one who lies in wait,
What do I think you sing of my brother's guard
one of Khaffān’s lions, narrow-eyed and thick-maned,
Of the nimble lion with shining eyes

When do men count it ready for wear?

صعب المقادة تخشاه فلا تعدِ
You will satisfy your desire with one whose watering places are bitter,
I spend the mornings, bitter are its edicts
hard to lead, whom you fear—so do not return.
Hard to tame, fear it and do not transgress

When will you return me, issue no edicts
that offers escape; and if I send you away, you will not return.
In them salvation, and if you issue I'll not return

Think not me an owl struck in the lowlands
a gatherer with his finger, or an abandoned egg in the wilderness.
By a finger or the eggs of the village

Glory moves not from Qais to another
