And how many a grieving, wailing woman you see,

Whenever she fails to find it, she turns toward her chosen places
on earth, or seeks a familiar companion and settles.

Forgive Time, for it offers no redress;
and set your hopes on others than those the earth has hidden.

I struck a bān-tree's two pillars, grown tall together;
she fell, and I did not urge my young she-camel on with 'daʿdaʿ.'
