Wajzah, with the dim stars guiding me.

a lamp hanging over the churches.

a watchman for the night-traveling stars at night's end.

I steer my companions toward the straight course; climbing

with us across its two broad flanks are the sturdy camels.

And it is one of time's marvels that every dwelling

of Wajzah in the environs of Zaman lies in ruins.

and so quench my thirst; nor do I take comfort in anyone I sit with.

whenever Qadis comes between me and Wajzah.

And we are like a crack in a drinking-bowl: if given to a mender,

he leaves it with its flaw still standing out.

It is enough between us that no greeting is returned

on either side, nor is a sneezer blessed.
