If I do not slake my keen sword with enemies' blood,

until blood drips from its patterned steel,

then may the lids of my eyes never be kohled with sleep,

nor may a messenger come to me from Abla's dream-apparition.

Whenever the West sees me, it submits to the awe I inspire,

and the East's reach forever falls short of mine.

I am Death, except that I show no patience

with heroes' souls, while Death is patient.

I am the lion guarding the domain of whoever seeks refuge with me,

and the account of my deeds will be remembered for all time.

Whenever I meet Death, I turban his head

with a sword that grows jewel-bright by drinking blood.

My blackness is whiteness when my virtues appear,

and my deeds stand proud and boast above lineages.

Lo, let my neighbor live in honor, and may he turn back—

    my enemy—humbled, remorseful, and lamenting.

I routed Tamim, then felled their ram,

and I returned, my sword red with the people's blood.

O sons of Abs, be masters among the tribes and take pride

in a slave whose pulpit stands above the two Simak stars.

Whenever the tribe's herald calls, I answer him,

while the steeds of death stumble over skulls.

    يُخَبِّركَ عَنّي أَنَّني أَنا عَنتَرُ

    Ask the Mashrafi sword of Indian make in my hand;

it will tell you of me: I myself am Antar.
