    Wage war on me, O misfortunes of the nights,

    from my right, and at times from my left.

    أَنتِ وَاللَهِ لَم تُلِمّي بِبالي

    And do your utmost to oppose and defy me;

    you, by God, have not crossed my mind.

    رِ وَأَقوى مِن راسِياتِ الجِبالِ

    Indeed, I have a resolve harder than rock

    and stronger than the firmly rooted mountains;

    لِ هَداني وَرَدَّني عَن ضَلالي

    and a spearhead that, when I wander blindly through the night,

    guides me and turns me back from going astray;

    and a steed who never moves without lightning flashing

    behind him, sparked by his horseshoes.

    بَينَ عَينَيهِ غُرَّةٌ كَالهِلالِ

    Jet-black, he cleaves the darkness with his blackness;

    between his eyes is a white blaze like the crescent moon.

    He ransoms me with his life, and I ransom

    him with my life and wealth on the day of battle.

    And when the market of spear-war opens

    and blazes with keen-edged, polished blades,

    I am its broker, and my spearhead is

    a merchant buying precious lives.

    O beasts of prey of the wilderness, when war blazes,

    follow me from the empty wastelands.

    Follow me: you will see the blood of foes

    flowing between the hills and sands.

    Then return after that, and thank me,

    and recount what you saw of my deeds.

    And take sustenance from the men's skulls

    for your little ones and cubs.
