لَئِن أَكُ أَسوَداً فَالمِسكُ لَوني

لَئِن أَكُ أَسوَداً فَالمِسكُ لَوني

وَما لِسَوادِ جِلدي مِن دَواءِ

وَما لِسَوادِ جِلدي مِن دَواءِ

Though I be black, musk is my color,

Though I am black, my color is that of musk.

and there is no remedy for the blackness of my skin.

And there is no remedy for the blackness of my skin.

وَلَكِن تَبعُدُ الفَحشاءُ عَنّي

وَلَكِن تَبعُدُ الفَحشاءُ عَنّي

كَبُعدِ الأَرضِ عَن جَوِّ السَماءِ

كَبُعدِ الأَرضِ عَن جَوِّ السَماءِ

Yet shameful conduct stays far from me,

And yet indecency is far from me,

as far as the earth is from the vault of heaven.

As far as the earth is from the expanse of the sky.
