تَهيمُshe wanders مِنَfrom المَخافَةِfear فيin رُباهاher hills
Ask Juhaynah about us—how she spent the night,
Ask Juheinah how she spent the night
Wandering in fear among her hills.
Restless with fear in her shelter
رَأَتshe saw طَعنيmy spear-thrusts فَوَلَّتso she turned away وَاِستَقَلَّتand fled
وَسُمرُand the brown spears الخَطِّof al-Khatt تَعمَلُstrike فيat قَفاهاher rear
She saw my spear-thrusts, then turned and fled,
She saw me stabbed and fled in haste
While the brown spears of al-Khatt struck at her rear.
While fate works on the back of her head
وَماand not أَبقَيتُI left فيهاin her lands بَعدَafter بِشرٍBishr
سِوىexcept الغِربانِthe ravens تَحجُلُhopping فيin فَلاهاher wastes
And after Bishr, I left nothing in her lands
And I left no one alive in her midst
But ravens hopping through her wastes.
Except the ravens pecking her wasteland
