وَغَداةَand in the morning صَبَّحنَthey raided at dawn الجِفارَal-Jifar عَوابِساًgrim-faced
وَغَداةَ صَبَّحنَ الجِفارَ عَوابِساً
يَهديleads أَوائِلَهُنَّtheir foremost ranks شُعثٌshaggy ones شُزَّبُlean
يَهدي أَوائِلَهُنَّ شُعثٌ شُزَّبُ
And in the morning they raided al-Jifar, grim-faced,
And the morning when they rode out sullen and grim,
Their vanguard led by the shaggy and lean.
Their first steps shook off fatigue and slumbering dreams
