    I kept silent, and my silence deceived my enemies.

    And they thought I had forgotten my kin.

    And how could I sleep heedless of the chiefs of a people,

    when I was raised in their abundant bounty?

    And if the enemies' cavalry encircles them,

    and they call me, I answer whenever I am summoned,

    with a sword whose edge drives death onward,

    and a spear whose point is death-dealing doom.

    وقد بليَ الحديدُ ومابليتُ

    I was created with a heart harder than iron;

    and iron has worn out, yet I have not.

    And I was born a child amid oft-renewed war,

    and was suckled on the milk of battle's tumult.

    And indeed I have drunk the enemies' blood,

    from skull-cups, yet my thirst was not quenched.

    So the spear has no share in my body,

    nor does the sword find food in my limbs.

    تَخِرُّ لِعُظْمِ هَيْبَتِهِ البُيوتُ

    And mine is a house that towers above the sphere of the Pleiades;

    before its mighty majesty, the houses fall prostrate.
