Why did you not turn back to your dear brother when he cried out
In bereavement—woe to your father, O son of Abu Shamir?
غادَرتَهُyou left him مِزَعَshreds الرِماحِthe spears وَأَسهَلَتand she took to level ground

You left him torn to shreds by spears, while she took to level ground—
A reddish mare for you, like a wolf, surging in her gallop.

So taste what you made yourself endure, then reckon
Among its losses your brother and Amir son of Abu Hujur.
