وَإِذا العَذارى بِالدُخانِ تَقَنَّعَت

وَاِستَعجَلَت نَصبَ القُدورِ فَمَلَّتِ

وَاِستَعجَلَت نَصبَ القُدورِ فَمَلَّتِ

And when the maidens veiled themselves in smoke,

And when the maidens veiled themselves in smoke,

and hurried to set up the cooking-pots, till they wearied,

and hurried to set up the pots, then roasted in hot ashes,

دَرَّت بِأَرزاقِ العِيالِ مَغالِقٌ

بِيَدَيَّ مِن قَمَعِ العِشارِ الجِلَّةِ

بِيَدَيَّ مِن قَمَعِ العِشارِ الجِلَّةِ

the gambling-arrows in my hands poured forth provisions for the household—

gaming arrows poured forth sustenance for the dependants,

from the humps of the great ten-month-pregnant she-camels.

in my two hands, from the choicest large she-camels, ten months pregnant.
