جَشِمتُI bore hardship لَهُfor him ماwhat لَيسَis not مِنّيfrom me جاشِمُهbearing it
And many an ally, weak in support, whose dwelling lies far away—
The patron of the weak victory's cry
I bore for him what he would not bear for me.
I have been hostile to him in ways I should not have been

Whenever he sees me approaching, he raises his voice
When he saw me approaching, he raised his voice
Against his adversary, and towers over whoever disputes with him.
Against the spears, and I supported the one who contends with him
وَأَجرَدَand many a sleek-coated horse مَيّاحٍswaying in its gait وَهَبتُI gave away بِسِرجِهِwith its saddle

And many a sleek horse, swaying in its gait, I gave away with its saddle
And I readied a naked sword and lent him my saddle
To a seeker of gifts, or an intimate whom I treat generously.
To one who stirs up trouble or harms a generous man
عَلىdespite أَنَّthat قَوميmy people أَسلَمونيthey abandoned me وَعُرَّتيand my disgrace
وَقَومُand the people of الفَتىthe young man أَظفارُهُhis claws وَدَعائِمُهand his pillars
Although my people abandoned me to my disgrace,
Because my people have left me exposed, myself and my virtue
And a man's people are his claws and his pillars.
And a young man's people are his claws and pillars
