لقد علمت أَقيالُ مَذحِجَ أَنني

لقد علمت أَقيالُ مَذحِجَ أَنني

أَنا الفارسُ الحامي إِذا القومُ ضَجَّروا

أَنا الفارسُ الحامي إِذا القومُ ضَجَّروا

The chieftains of Madhhij know full well that I

I knew the men of Muzaḥiǧ that I

am the defending horseman when the men grow weary.

Am the protector knight when people are annoyed

صَبَرتُ لأَهل القادسيةِ مُعلماً

صَبَرتُ لأَهل القادسيةِ مُعلماً

ومثلي إِذا لم يَصبرِ الناسُ يَصبِرُ

ومثلي إِذا لم يَصبرِ الناسُ يَصبِرُ

I stood firm against the men of al-Qadisiyyah, wearing battle insignia,

I was patient with the people of Qadisiya teaching

and one like me stands firm when people do not.

And the like of me, when people are not patient, is patient

وطاعنتُهم بالرمح حتى تَبدَّدوا

وطاعنتُهم بالرمح حتى تَبدَّدوا

وضاربتُهم بالسيف حتى تكسَّروا

وضاربتُهم بالسيف حتى تكسَّروا

And I thrust at them with the spear until they scattered,

And I stabbed them with the spear until they scattered

and struck them with the sword until they were shattered.

And I struck them with the sword until they broke

بذلك أوصاني أبي وأبو أبي

بذلك أوصاني أبي وأبو أبي

بذلك أَوصَوني فلستُ أُقَصِّرُ

بذلك أَوصَوني فلستُ أُقَصِّرُ

My father and my father's father charged me with this;

That's how my father and my father's father instructed me

they charged me with this, so I do not fall short.

That's how they instructed me, so I do not fall short

حَمِدتُ إِلهي إذ هداني لدينه

حَمِدتُ إِلهي إذ هداني لدينه

فللّهِ أَسعى ما حَييتُ وأَشكرُ

فللّهِ أَسعى ما حَييتُ وأَشكرُ

I praised my God when He guided me to His religion;

I praised my God when He guided me to His religion

so for God I strive as long as I live, and give thanks.

So to Allah I strive as long as I live and thank
