So, were it not for the clan’s nobles from the house of Mālik,
Were it not for the horsemen of the living from the house of Malik,
And the foremost of ʿAwf—your whole basin is brimful.
And the peak of Awf, your every pool would be a watering place,

They both struck with spears in defense of honor’s stronghold
They held back the white fortress of glory with the spear,
At a clan’s foremost men, while the spears splintered.
The army of the tribe and their spears shaking,

And your fortune is castrated, face-down and wretched;
Your grandfather frowning in the face, sad,
Riders spread word of it as long as a lofty peak stands.
The caravans walking by him while the branches stood.
