سَبَى الأطفالَ واجتَّز النَّواصي

سَبَى الأطفالَ واجتَّز النَّواصي

من الأَبطالِ وانتَسَفَ الدّيارا

He took the children captive and cut off the forelocks

He abducted the children and crossed the frontiers

Of the champions, and razed the dwellings.

Of the heroes, and their homes crumbled away.

فلم يقتلهُ مُستلماً مُفيقاً

فلم يقتلهُ مُستلماً مُفيقاً

ولكن بعد ما شرب العُقارا

ولكن بعد ما شرب العُقارا

Yet he did not kill him armored and sober,

Yet he did not kill him while awake and conscious,

But only after he had drunk wine.

فما إن داذَوَى لَكُمُ بفخرٍ

So Dadhaway is no source of pride for you,

So it was not with pride that he called you,

But Dadhaway disgraced what he was bound to defend.

Rather, he exposed the ignominy.

وفيروزٌ غَداةَ أصاب فيكم

وفيروزٌ غَداةَ أصاب فيكم

وأَضرَبَ في جُموعكُمُ استجارا

وأَضرَبَ في جُموعكُمُ استجارا

And Fayruz, on the morning he struck among you

And Firuz in the morning inflicted on you all,

And advanced through your hosts, sought refuge.

Slashing through your assembled hordes.
