ويومand on a day ببَرقاءِat Barqāʾ الإِخاذَينِal-Ikhādhayn لوif رأىhe had seen
ويوم ببَرقاءِ الإِخاذَينِ لو رأى
أُبَيٌّUbayy مكانيmy position لانتهىhe would have desisted أوor لَجرَّباhe would have tried
أُبَيٌّ مكاني لانتهى أو لَجرَّبا
And on a day at Barqāʾ al-Ikhādhayn, had Ubayy seen
Were he to see Barqa's enchanting eyes instead of me
where I stood, he would have desisted or tried his hand.
My father would have tried ceaselessly, or perished in the attempt
