The Tigris races between them, and you see
Tigris midst them waits, and you may view,
dark ships rising high like packhorses:
Ships like sea-horses coming into view.

فيها القصور التي تهوي بأجنحة
بالزائرينwith the visitors الىto القومthe people المزورينthose being visited
بالزائرين الى القوم المزورين
Aboard them are palaces that swoop on wings,
Palaces that soar on wings contained,
carrying visitors to the people they visit.
Where throngs of visitors are entertained.
منof كلevery حراقةriver barge يعلوrises above فقارتهاits backbone
من كل حراقة يعلو فقارتها
قصرa palace منof الساجteak عالlofty ذوwith أساطينcolumns
قصر من الساج عال ذو أساطين
Above each river barge's backbone rises
Above each street a palace peers,
a lofty palace of teak, with columns.
