ما ضرني حسد اللئام ولم يزل
ذوone possessed of الفضلmerit يحسدهenvies him ذووthose possessed of النقصانdeficiency
ذو الفضل يحسده ذوو النقصان
The envy of the ignoble has not harmed me, and always
The envy of the ignoble did not harm me, though
the man of merit has been envied by the deficient.
The virtuous are envied by those of lesser worth.
ياO بؤسwoe قومa people ليسis not جرمthe crime of عدوهمtheir enemy
يا بؤس قوم ليس جرم عدوهم
إلاexcept تظاهرthe profusion of نعمةthe bounty of الرحمنthe Most Merciful
إلا تظاهر نعمة الرحمن
Woe to a people whose enemy's only crime
Oh what misfortune that a people whose only crime
is the profusion of the Most Merciful's bounty.
Is displaying the blessings of the Merciful should have enemies.
