لعمركby your life ماnot النائيthe far-off one البعيدthe distant one بنازحremote
لعمرك ما النائي البعيد بنازح
إذاif قربتdrew near ألطافهhis favors ونوائلهand his gifts
إذا قربت ألطافه ونوائله
By your life, the far-off, distant one is not remote,
Your life is not so far and out of reach
if his favors and gifts draw near.
When kindness and affection it may teach
وماand not ضرناharmed us إنif السماكal-Simāk (a star) محلقsoaring high
وما ضرنا إن السماك محلق
بعيدfar away إذاif جادتpoured generously عليناupon us هواطلهits showers
بعيد إذا جادت علينا هواطله
Nor does it harm us if al-Simāk soars high,
It matters not that bounty seems on high
far away, if its showers pour generously upon us.
