هذا ابن ميخائيلَ أُدْرِج في الثرى
مِنfrom بعدafter ماhaving سكنdwelt in القصورَthe palaces وشيّداand built them
مِن بعد ما سكن القصورَ وشيّدا
This son of Mikhail was laid in the earth,
This is the son of Mikhail, laid to rest in the earth
After he had dwelt in palaces and built them.
After having lived in palaces that he built
قدindeed عاشlived محمودpraised الصفاتthe qualities مكرَّماًhonored
قد عاش محمود الصفات مكرَّماً
ومضىand departed بقوىwith the powers of ربّهhis Lord متزوّداprovisioned
ومضى بقوى ربّه متزوّدا
He lived, praised for his qualities and held in honor,
He lived a life of honorable deeds and was honored
And departed, provisioned with his Lord's strength.
And departed, provisioned by the strength of his Lord
فلئنso if indeed بكاهwept for him آلthe family of بستْرُسٍBustros فقدthen indeed
فلئن بكاه آل بستْرُسٍ فقد
بكتِwept المروءةnobility منهin him سهماًan arrow مفرَداpeerless
بكتِ المروءة منه سهماً مفرَدا
So if the Bustros family wept for him, then indeed
Though the Bustrus family may mourn him
Nobility mourned in him a peerless arrow.
Nobility itself mourns him with a lone arrow
حلّsettled الرضىfavor فوقabove الضريحthe tomb مؤرخاًmarking the date
حلّ الرضى فوق الضريح مؤرخاً
أضحىhas become نقولاNicola فيin الجنانthe gardens of Paradise مُخَلَّداmade immortal
أضحى نقولا في الجنان مُخَلَّدا
Favor settled above the tomb, marking the date:
Contentment settles over his grave, recording
Nicola has become immortal in the gardens of Paradise.
