نِعمَhow excellent الفتىthe young man يُنميهhe nurtures him نعمhow excellent الناميthe growing one
نِعمَ الفتى يُنميه نعم النامي
Congratulate the prince of art, for his newborn son
Is a fine lad he nurtures—how fine the growing child!
أرأيتhave you seen خطthe handwriting of أبيهhis father فانظرْthen look at وجهَهhis face
أرأيت خط أبيه فانظرْ وجهَه
فيin الآيتينthe two marvels بدائعthe wonders of الإلهامinspiration
في الآيتين بدائع الإلهام
Have you seen his father's handwriting? Then look upon his face:
In these two marvels lie the wonders of inspiration.
عوّذتI invoked protection for بالفنwith art البديعwondrous نُبوغهhis genius
عوّذت بالفن البديع نُبوغه
وحياتَهُand his life بسعادةwith the happiness of الأيّامthe days
وحياتَهُ بسعادة الأيّام
I have invoked wondrous art to guard his genius,
And the happiness of days to guard his life.
ياoh حبَّذاhow lovely التاريخُthe date بالبشرwith gladness ازدهتshone resplendent
يا حبَّذا التاريخُ بالبشر ازدهت
شَمْسُthe sun of المكارمِnoble deeds يومَon the day of مولدِthe birth of سَاميSami
شَمْسُ المكارمِ يومَ مولدِ سَامي
How lovely the date! With gladness shone
The sun of noble deeds on the day of Sami's birth.
