O lord whose eminence stands on its own,

O master whose eminence stands by itself

needing no praise or description of it.

Needing no attributes or descriptions

إن لم تكن لك في القوافي رغبة

إن لم تكن لك في القوافي رغبة

فالطم بها وجه الرجاء وهاتها

فالطم بها وجه الرجاء وهاتها

If you have no desire for the rhymes,

If rhyming poetry does not appeal to you

then slap hope's face with them, and hand them to me.

Then turn to it the face of hope and bring it

فالأم لا تأبى إذا لم يولها

فالأم لا تأبى إذا لم يولها

أصهارها خيراً طلاق بناتها

أصهارها خيراً طلاق بناتها

For a mother does not refuse—if she is not shown

For a mother does not refuse if her

kindness by her sons-in-law—the divorce of her daughters.

In-laws do not treat her daughters well, to divorce them
