يا منعماً بنداه يعدم العدم

يا منعماً بنداه يعدم العدم

وينجلي بهداه الظلم والظلم

O benefactor whose bounty abolishes want,

O He who is graced with His blessings, dispelling nonexistence

And by whose guidance injustice and darkness are dispelled,

And illuminating with His guidance the darkness and injustice

وقادراً أمطر الدنيا ندى وردى

وقادراً أمطر الدنيا ندى وردى

ففاض من راحتيه البأس والكرم

ففاض من راحتيه البأس والكرم

And mighty one who rained bounty and death upon the world,

Capable of raining the world with dew and flowers

So martial might and generosity flowed from his two palms.

Overflowing with might and generosity from His comfort

هنئت عيداً تخطتني سحائبه

هنئت عيداً تخطتني سحائبه

وقد سقى الخلق منها الوابل الردم

وقد سقى الخلق منها الوابل الردم

May you rejoice in a feast whose clouds passed me by,

You celebrated a feast that was veiled from me by clouds

Though their copious downpour has watered humankind.

Watering people with its heavy rains

في روضة الحزن من فقدانها غلل

في روضة الحزن من فقدانها غلل

وفي سباخ الثرى من صوبها ديم

وفي سباخ الثرى من صوبها ديم

The upland meadow burns with thirst for lack of them,

In the garden of sorrow from losing it I was shackled

While their showers bring steady rain to the earth's salt flats.

And on the muddy ground from its direction I was still

عجبت كيف تناستني علاك وقد

عجبت كيف تناستني علاك وقد

ظلت ضحاياك بين الخلق تقتسم

ظلت ضحاياك بين الخلق تقتسم

I marvelled at how your eminence could overlook me, while

I wonder how you forgot me despite

Your sacrificial animals kept being shared among the people.

Your sacrifices amongst people being shared

نسيان مثلي بعد الذكر محقرة

نسيان مثلي بعد الذكر محقرة

إن الغنيمة عندي ما هي الغنم

إن الغنيمة عندي ما هي الغنم

Forgetting one like me after remembering him is a slight;

Forgetting someone like me after remembrance is disgraceful

Indeed, to me the prize is not the sheep.

To me the spoils are not the same as the sheep

أنت الزمان فمن ترفعه يعل ومن

أنت الزمان فمن ترفعه يعل ومن

تخفض من الناس لا يرفع له علم

تخفض من الناس لا يرفع له علم

You are Time: whoever you raise rises high, and whoever

You are time, whom you raise is exalted and whom

You bring low among men has no banner raised for him.

You debase from people no flag is raised for him

ومن تغافلت عنه فهو مطرح

ومن تغافلت عنه فهو مطرح

ومن نظرت إليه فهو محترم

ومن نظرت إليه فهو محترم

And whoever you ignore is cast aside,

And whom you neglect is discarded

And whoever you look upon is respected.

And whom you look upon is respected
