O Abu Shams al-Khilafa—an epithet
O Father of the Caliphate, and this description

I have seen the dew of your lips, more dewy still

And clung to loving the People of the Cloak.

Your palm’s generosity turned Shi‘i in its gifts,
Your open hand scatters generosity,
though I had known Shi‘ism as a matter of allegiance.
While my allegiance is pledged to loving allegiance.
