Valor, and lofty glory will depart.

A generous man whose deeds have become like his face,

And both are radiant and beautiful.

    His soul has risen above every peer and counterpart;

So he has no kindred but the stars.

Though he comes from a spreading tree of Yaʿrub,

Whose branch is glory and whose roots are generosity.

When the wind of praise shakes it, it sways,

And bends toward hopes wherever they turn.

May the lives of a people shield you from ills,

Whose pedigree among misers is long.

Whenever my mind turns to disparaging their honor,

Their being your people holds me back from them.

May God be your guardian against the vagaries of misfortune,

And your guarantor of success in what you seek.

And may your eminence ever be guarded by a resolve

That teaches us through reason how to speak.
