ألا قل لكتاب الصناعة كلهم

ألا قل لكتاب الصناعة كلهم

وخص أبا النقص المكنى أبا الفضل

وخص أبا النقص المكنى أبا الفضل

Lo, tell all the scribes of the craft,

Tell all the masters of craft,

And single out Abu al-Naqs, known as Abu al-Fadl:

And particularly Abu al-Naqs, the one called Abu al-Fadl,

على أم من لا يعتني بحوائجي

على أم من لا يعتني بحوائجي

أيور التي يُركبن في سورة النحل

أيور التي يُركبن في سورة النحل

Upon the mother of whoever pays no heed to my needs

"For the mother of one who tends not to my needs -

Be the cocks of the beasts ridden in Surah al-Nahl.

Alas, may she be ridden in Surat al-Nahl!"
